Prague public transport consists of three underground (i.e. subway, tube, metro) lines A, B, and C connecting city center with edge parts and numerous tram and bus lines. Unfortunately, the funicular railway to the Petřín Hill will be out of service until autumn 2026.
Brief summary of the options how to pay Prague public transport fare:
-
You can buy paper tickets in advance, before entering a vehicle, at cost CZK 50 (for up to 90 min travel) or 39 CZK (up to 30 min).
The tickets are available at vending machines or special points of sales (usually at the entrance to metro station).
Once validated in the ticket validator on the first vehicle, the ticket can be used for any number of transfers.
- Alternatively, after installing a PID Lítačka app in your mobile phone, you can buy the same types of tickets directly from the app (you get 8% discount). However, you should always complete your purchase at least 1 min before entering the first vehicle.
- Finally, it is possible to buy the tickets (already validated) in trams and buses, using touchscreen terminals and paying with your contactless card or phone.
- In some cases, 24-hour (CZK 150) or 72-hour (CZK 350) tickets can be more advantageous (72-hour ticket is not available at in-vehicle terminals).
- Seniors over the age of 60 can buy 50% discounted tickets, seniors over the age of 65 can travel free of charge. In the event of a ticket inspection, a senior passenger must prove his/her age by presenting a passport or an EU-recognized ID card.
